Re: A helpFrom: T Dubose (tjdubose@chrp.uams.edu)Fri Nov 22 09:23:04 1996
There are a few histories of sonography in the literature. There is a chapter on the History of Fetal Sonography by Dr. Mimi Berman in DuBose TJ; FETAL SONOGRAPHY, Chapter 2; W. B. Saunders Co., 1996. This chapter touches on the introduction of Endovaginal Sonography as it relates to the 1st trimester and *sonoembryology*. There is a history of the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers: A History of SDMS' First 25 Years by Joan P. Baker, M.S.R., RDMS; Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, 1995; 12770 Coit Road, Suite 508, Dallas, Texas 75251. This little book covers the events around the formation and later development of the SDMS, and was fairly economical, if it is still in print. Another history was published in 1988 by Eastman Kodak Company for the AIUM, WFUMB, and the Smithonian Institute on the placement of the Sonographic Display in the Smithonian. The title is Medical Diagnostic Ultrasound: A Retrospective on Its 40th Anniversary. However, Kodak has a disclaimer in the front that appears they are not the owners of the publication, seems Kodak only paid for the printing so they could put their name on the cover. Dr. Barry Goldberg at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Penn. was the primary author and chairman of the Archive Committee for the AIUM and WFUMB. A copy of this retrospective might be available from the AIUM, WFUMB or perhaps from Dr. Goldberg. Hope this helps. I do not know of any sonographic histories on the http://wwweb yet. Perhaps some ambitious author will be inspired by your question. Or might I suggest that your son consider publishing his history, once it is complete, on the OBGYN.net site. Good luck to you and your son. Peace, Terry J. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
