I use either the Soules 5.3 F IUI catheter or a 5 F HSG balloon catheter. Some use a pediatric feeding tube or foley, but I have no experience with either of these.

I cannot locate an acceptable CPT code for this, and was not able to obtain one from ACOG, any insurance company, or other sources for an article I have in press on this subject in Cont. Ob/Gyn. I will check out the CPT code Dr. Goldstein apparently uses.

I find it a valuable procedure regardless of additional reimbursement, but would bet that doctors working under fully capitated plans could save money using this technique. It uses fairly inexpensive materials and allows triage of patients for hormonal therapy or for operative hysteroscopy without the need for HSG or diagnostic hysteroscopy.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
