Secondary AmenorrheaFrom: Dan Logen (pdl@whidbey.net)Wed Nov 13 21:28:55 1996
I have a 15 yo patient who had fairly regular menses for one year, now is amenorrheic for 11 months. General exam is normal. She is thin but not excessively so, weighing about 115 pounds. She was running about 25 miles a week, but no return of menses since stopping running about 2 months ago. No galactorrhea or visual disturbance. No reason to suspect an eating disorder. Not sexually active. Exam normal. Thin endometrial stripe. No progesterone withdrawal bleeding. Normal FSH, prolactin and TSH. I have started her on a low dose oral contraceptive. Is there any reason for any more workup or concern at this time? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
