<<Makes sense, but..... many of us already do that with our prophylactic Ancef with c-sections(don't want ot get into discussion on necessity of this without ROM)... the real question in my institution has been, should we be giving antibiotics for elective c/s with intact ROM in GBS and if so need it be 4 hours prior to delivery as recommended for vaginal delivery GBS prophylaxis.>> Well..... The question would be, how do you theorize the GBS gets to the baby if there is NO labor and NO ROM? The 4 hours is for laboring patients, presumably infecting their infant DURING labor (by exposure to maternal secretions, etc. If you do a "sterile" c-section, how's the baby exposed? I still think just the "plain" c-section prophylaxis is enough (and as you imply, arguable, if it's an elective repeat). Joe P.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
