t(13;14)From: Allen Gardner (allen.gardner@utoronto.ca)Sat Nov 9 21:57:49 1996
Greetings Listservers, I just saw a couple where he carries a 13;14 translocation. Her chromosomes are normal and she is now pregnant via ICSE as his sperm count was low. I have been using the opinion of Mac Gardner (Mac are you reading this?) and Grant Sutherland in their text that this translocation is not an indication for amnio (although anxiety would be). However, as I talk to various people there seems to be a counter opinion that trisomy 13 is definitely at increased risk for the fetus. One colleague says he has seen +13 fetuses where the parent carried the translocation on 2 occasions, different couples. Please give me your opinion and tell me how you manage the situation. Many thanks. Allen.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
