Dear Milree- One of the last jobs that I did at my hospital prior to taking my current job at AWHONN involved the development of what I called our "electronic birth log". It was in the testing phase when I left. It was done using a commercially available software (the name escapes me right now) and we designed it with easy to use pop-up fields that were point and click. Some were mandatory fill-ins and some were optional. It also had a field for free text notes for complications. The hope was that eventually we would be able to link it into the Virginia BVS program which generated our electronic birth certificate registry so that the information would only have to be entered once. In addition, we were designing several types of statistical reports that could be generated since I was the unit statistician (in addition to my other clinical ladder jobs :-0 ) and hand calculating VBAC success rate to potential candidates to scheduled repeat sections was getting a bit dicey.

Both myself and the RN on the project left the hospital, but I could try to track down some information if you are interested. Just let me know.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
