HRT DOES NOT EQUAL OCP'S Yes I was shouting on purpose. It takes about 3-4 mg of premarin to equal the estrogenic effect of 35 micrograms of ethinyl estradiol. Not all of the complications of OCP's can be extrapolated to HRT. I am aware of no study showing an increased incidence of cholelithiasis with HRT. Even if it does have an increased incidence, I would strongly rec you still prescribe HRT. Remember it is protective agains Coronary artery Disease Osteoporosis GU Atrophy Catarcts Failing visual acuity Dental caries Colorectal cancer (decreased risk 6-8 fold) AND Possibly even Alzheimer's I wish there was a medication that did all that for men.
