I completely agree. In our hospital, however, you cannot bring a "dirty" case such as an incomplete abortion or postpartum patient (wound breakdown, endometritis, etc) into labor and delivery. I will sometimes sneak a patient up to L&D (most recently a lady with a lost condom) because, as you put it, ya got everything you need up there. I finally got tired of the hassle, and am working with the executives to designate and supply a dedicated gyn exam room in the hospital both for these kinds of problems and for in-house gyn consults (doing a pelvic on a bedpan in 1996 seems unreasonable to me). This may be an alternative for those working in hospitals with strict L&D protocols.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
