Medical Director Women's ServicesFrom: fuf@gulf.netSun Oct 27 17:53:39 1996
Members of the List, I am on a committee to select a Medical Director for Women's Services at a community based Level 3 perinatal center. Our committee will also draft a job description. The Director will work part-time as a medical administrator under the Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs. The candidate is also expected to have a part-time medical practice (related to women's health) which will be supported by the hospital. The hospital is paying well for this part-time position and many candidates have applied. I could really use some help from the List regarding the optimal role of such an administrator. I can see the job description encroaching on the role of several people including: The Ob/Gyn Department Chairman (elected by active medical staff in the department); the program director of our residency program ( the associate academic department chair at our university affiliate) and the director of perinatology (me). For example: the Ob/Gyn Chairman has applied for this position. I wonder if holding both titles would be a conflict of interest (medical staff vs hospital administration). Could anyone please tell me if they have an effective person in a similar position at their hospital? If so, why is the person or position effective. Does anyone have any adverse experience's which may be instructive for my hospital? Is there a role or set of duties which should be included in the job description? Thanks a lot for your help. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
