Re: Chicken Pox exposure 1st triFrom: Terrence.Jones@ncal.kaiperm.orgSat Oct 26 21:11:16 1996
Danny, same dose (5 vials if pt over 50kg) if treating postexposure with VZIG, provided immunoprophylaxis is administered with 96 hrs of exposure. The question regarding 'pneumonia' prophylaxis is usually assoc with the, as yet unclear, timing of acyclovir therapy. Tho some might begin acyclovir de novo, others might wait for s/s of infection (rash), and there's data to suggest it is also prudent to wait until pulmonary s/s develop (3-5 days following rash). For further info, see Broussard, Chest (4/91) 99:1045-7, and Smego, O/G (12/91) 78:1112-6). Terry Jones, San Fran.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
