Cytotec protocol

I used to remember our residents cutting a "sliver" of Prostin E2 suppository for cervical ripening before the introduction of Prepidil gel. There were always arguments re: the distribution of the medication in the suppository and the quantitation of the amount administered. These same arguments would appear to apply to Cytotec, which is supplied in a 100 mcg unscored tablet. Is the prostaglandin distributed equally throughout the tablet? How does one cut this tablet into equal quarters?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
