Re: Nursing Policy - replyFrom: Ealgail@aol.comMon Oct 21 12:46:57 1996
In a message dated 96-10-20 15:02:29 EDT, you write: << that ultimately it's my responsibility, and with ultimate responsibility goes ultimate authority ! >> I, too, labor under that illusion. However, over and over I get corrected about the authority issue. (No one seems to want to argue about the resposibility issue- they are more than happy to let us have that). It is a myth that we still have much authority at all. Nurses and hospital administrators can "cancel" our orders. HMO's can "order" us to discharge patients from the hospital. And.....we can exercise our "authority" and refuse. But.....they will punish us for it, if we keep "acting" like that. Linda Morrison-Boczar, M.D. Asst. Prof. IU

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
