Re: Risk of prolapse

We recently had our first cord prolapse in 12+ years in my practice (approx 5600-6000 births.) It was a woman who came in with recent SROM. and hx fast labors. FH was 90 and cord was in vagina. She had c/s and healthy infant.

Our practice is expectant management of PROM - evaluation and culture in office and then home til active (assuming negative culture, no hx GBS etc). Since this is the first prolapse in nearly 6000 births, I do not feel bed rest etc is warranted.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
