Re: Medical and non-medical uses of placentaFrom: Ealgail@aol.comMon Oct 7 10:55:45 1996
Regarding using membranes for burn dressings....I participated in a study using amnions for burn dressings. We processed them using sterile saline, very dilute sodium hyperchlorate solution and cultured them. They stopped the pain of burns amazingly and immediately, while providing a biologic dressing. Placentas have, in the past, been frozen and collected by pharmaceutical companies for extraction of various hormones. ?? for cosmetics or actual medications.?? Linda Morrison-Boczar, M.D. Asst. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
