Re: Postpartal Urinary Retention X's 3From: Beverly Miller (bmiller@cleaf.com)Wed Oct 2 13:53:38 1996
Respectfully of your position, may I add some management suggestions as a practicing midwife/nurse of 18 years. Lots of fluids after birth (esp warm raspberry teas with cranberry juice added) and warm showers about 2hrs PP seem to do the trick, even with stubborn bladder sphincters somewhat traumatized by delivery. Lots of times, have found that psychological factor plays a big part in PPUR ---face it, it is not comfortable for many women for the first few days. Respectfully. BJM Patience Birth & Family Center TX I have a pt. 32Y/O G3 P3 after her first 2 spont. vag. dels had postpartum urinary retention. Anybody got any good ideas re: 1. etiology and/or 2. management.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
