PIH and CervidilFrom: CNMPAT@aol.comTue Oct 1 09:10:56 1996
Gary and others: Sorry for the tardy response. I'm just now getting around to reading this file !! Thanks for your response, and actually, I do keep seriously PIH clients in overnight. There is an attitude at our hospital about 'unnecessary admissions', and some would argue the person needs to go home, because they are taking up a space, and space is $$. I disagree with them, and feel the safety of the mom and baby are foremost. I mention the safety issue, and don't get much argument then from the nurses. But we are looked at as costing the hospital $$ !! Recently in our area, a mom with mild PIH WAS sent home (from another facility), after Cervidil, to come back for pitocin. The next morning, when she came back, her baby was dead. So, I agree. If a medical indication such as PIH exists, they stay. What do the others of you feel. How do you deal with the issues of "Cost Containment". Any good responses?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
