no.. A patient asked me why I was paid 600$ an hour. for her "10 minute vist."

I spent 45 minutes involved in a very detailed h and p and infertility discussion..told her it would be expensive to get the baseline labs..and ordered basic inititial work up labs and cultres.

then I explained that she went through two receptionists..1-2 nurses.. a billing clerk..then a lab tech..she paid for the building and it's other support services and my 70,000 a year in liability insurance. I explained overhead and hmo deductions/federal deductions <medicare et all>. I went into the detailed h+p and the plan we'd gone over with her visit. <she had sent in a letter of complaint and my response was 4 pages long. she stayed with me.

point is to me "we are worth" involves all the overhead..the charge we must generate to keep our heads above water. I see about 35-40% of the charges if I am lucky. it is likely less than that. and I do eat a lot of free care..write off care as we all do. for some of my patients I personally pay for their antibiotics when they can't afford them. I think it just goes with the job..responsibility.

that's the way I read it anyway. maybe I misread it.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
