Re: IUD and actinomycesFrom: R. Daniel Braun (rBraun@IUNET.IUPUI.EDU)Tue Jul 30 16:28:57 1996
If there was no evidence of tubal infection, I would treat with ampicillin after culturing and confirming Actinomyces. Our friends the cytologists may not always be that accurate. The sulphur granules could also be an external contaminant to the slide. If there is evidence of tubal infection, I would definitely remove the IUD and treat.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
