Air in the Bladder

Dr. Lisse asked why we use air to establish bladder integrity instead of simply looking for blood in the foley bag. I use the air technique only when I have repaired the bladder and I want to verify that my suture line is intact. Our most common indication for this is when there is a question of ureteral injury. We then open teh dome of the bladder and pass pediatric feeding tubes in the uirteral orifices.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
