Three points: 1 Can we be sure that the recurrence would have happened if the pessary hadn't been inserted, as previously acknowledged recurrence generally speaking is rare. 2 Is a brief episode of retention early in the third trimester such a big deal that it's worth having an operation for. I think one needs to consider the pro's and con's ( or the patient does ! ). 3 I'm not convinced laparoscopic ventrosupsension is such a good operation. I have very limited experience but the women seemed to walked around bent forwards for a week, then it eased. It's often suggested that the discomfort eases as it all works lose ! What happens to the round ligamanet as it stretches in pregnancy ? Is the effect undone so that it's no longer effective after the next pregnancy ?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
