Just my .02 cents. > Lonnie Morris I don't believe that anyone has suggested that doulas are entitled to make medical decisions. But it is important that women have someone present during labor to provide emotional support and assist them with changing positions, etc. this role could be filled by a husband, midwife, professional doula or any other knowledgable person that the woman trusts who is able to be with her throughout labor. I believe that the best care is rendered not when the OBs and CNMs are on the same team, but when everyone who comes into contact with the laboring woman (OBs, CNMs, nurses, students, doulas, husbands, etc.) does so with the objective of working *with her* to achieve not only a healthy baby and mother, but a positive birth experience as well (and yes, it is possible to have a positive birth experience if you have a c-sec). We need to shift the paradigm and look at this from a Total Quality Management perspective where the quality of the woman's experience is a direct reflection of her providers' worth. JMHO

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
