low dose pitocin

I have brought this issue up before but would like to present it again. We have been using low dose pitocin overnight (up to 4mu) to ripen unfavorable cervices in patients with PROM as well as no ROM. I have been impressed that the patient comes in the hospital at around 10 PM and by morning, she is favorable and many times in active labor. The nursing staff watches the Pit drip overnight and since the dosage is low and the patients aren't in active labor, there is no more reason for the attending to be in the hospital than with Prostin gel.

I would really like to see one of the academicians on this list undertake a randomized control study comparing this low dose Pitocin regimen with prostin gel.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
