In New Mexico we have a physician owned and run company that in the past has done quite well in keeping costs down. They do not operate for profit however. This year they announced an 11% increase in premium for next year; the same time that we've noted 20%-30% drop in physician salary. I don't believe that physician ownership even in a non-profit endeavor creates any great advantage for the company or for the investor.

I don't believe that many liability carriers are making the buckets of money that HMO's are making. And I'm not certain that further contributions to the federal government are the answer. I think we need accountability and INCENTIVE at every level. That means the government gets some, but the people KEEP more if they stay healthy. The providers KEEP more if they do a good job. And insurance companies get some too if THEY do a good job. This idea of giving up profit to the government is already proven to be a plan that will fail. People, corporations, AND governments should get money only when they deserve it by being efficient and doing what people want.

I just want to be able to stay in business...

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
