RE: physician owned medical insurance companies

I'm not an MD, but I think there is a potential conflict of interest in providing health care to patients insured by a company in which you have ownership interest. And I'm sure there would be some temptation for some people to do what insurers are doing now - restrict health care access in favor of the bottom line.

Health insurers are a business, intent on making a profit. I am still of the opinion that we should offer several plans through the federal government, with the payment bypassing the middle man (insurance co) and going straight to the provider. We have such a glut of insurance providers now, each bent on competing for the big employer contracts, all concerned with their profit margin, that I think those of us who provide the health services will end up at the bottom of the "trickle down" effect. Not much.

If all the money currently ending up in the pockets of the insurance company administrators went back into the federal budget, it would benefit everybody.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
