physician owned medical insurance companies

In today's world of "managed care" (or "managed finance") time has come for physician "managed care". We cannot or will not return to the "old days" of unquestioned fee for service, but we certainly can and should take control of the medical financial system as it is developing. Establishment of physician owned medical insurance companies would put the total premium dollar back into physician controlled businesses which should put patient care first and stockholder (and administrative) profits in support of patient care. Physicians traditionally have not participated in such financial arrangements, for many reasons. What is the feel of this group? What support is there in the Ob-Gyn community for this idea? It has and is being done in Texas, Oklahoma, California, and other states in local areas. What support for statewide participation involving investment of $5000-10000 per physician?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
