placenta accreta/dysfunctional laborFrom: ElisHyde@aol.comThu Jun 27 22:29:44 1996
a group of OBs/CNM/RNs were chatting on the labor floor today re: c/hysts. As we talked, it became apparent that of the 4 recent c/hysts for placenta accreta/percreta we remembered, all had been primips (no previous hx uterine surgery/tab etc). Interestingly, all were primips sectioned for dysfunctional labor patterns. Most had had IUPCs and had inability to document adequate contractions. We wondered if placentation abnormalities (accreta, percreta, increta) could lead to dysfunctional labor patterns - particularly if the abnormal placentation was fundal, and thereby interfering with uterine pacemaker activity. Any thoughts re: your own experiences with primip accretas? Elisabeth Hyde CNM Branford, CT

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
