However, we have performed a few amniocentesis on patients receiving prophylactic low dose heparin (subcutaneous) because of previous DVT. They just avoided the morning injection and came to the clinics the same day for the procedure. APTT should be normal in all cases (more than 12 hrs since the last injection). We haven't had any complications, outcome were all normal (babies) although one mother had bone compression in the spine secondary to the heparin treatment. Amniocentesis should of course not be carried out if the patient is receiving full dose heparin for newly diagnosed DVT. I would not hesitate to perform an amniocentesis under the premisses discussed here. Hope this help. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
