Re: How to induce??Whether to induce??From: Ronald Helm (ronhelm@ronhelm.seanet.com)Tue Jun 25 18:30:14 1996
am aware of one maternal death secondary to clostridial infection associated with the use of this technique. I would suggest having a few studies with large numbers done before jumping on the bandwagon. Most of the literature comes from Israel on the use of the Foley balloon and it is all very impressive. I have personally used the Foley technique since 1973, have never seen evidence of "Clostridial infection" and have never seen it fail. It is an extra-ovular balloon, i.e outside of the amnion and introduces no more bacteria than "stripping the membranes" . It may seem too low-tech with all of the prostins, cervidil, prepidil, Cytotec etc, but don't condemn it until you have tried it and found that it works. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
