PP DepressionFrom: CNMPAT@aol.comSat Jun 22 11:29:09 1996
Subject: postpartum depression Does anyone know about hormonal treatment for postpartum depression? We have a patient who has just had her second baby, and is depressed again. The first time she had some relief from antidepressants but not completely. Her family situation is very good, and she does not get depressed unless she is post partum. Does anyone do thyroid workup for such a case? If so, which labs specifically? Lily Kay CNM MS Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound University of Washington MPH Program Seems to be support for supplementing with Natural Progesterone (100mg BID-QID). I would also do a TSH. Three good books I've found recently:"Liste ning to Your Hormones" by Gillian Ford, "What your Doctor might not tell you about Menopause" by Dr Lee, and Screaming to be Heard by Dr. Elizabeth Lee Vliet. This brings up a topic I've been studying lately. What opinions to the folks on this mailing list have about natural progesterone and natural estrogens as compared with synthetics? Lots of new research coming out: any good/bad experiences to share?? Pat Sonnenstuhl CNM,ARNP,RH Summer is here ???? Where's the warm weather?? cnmpat@aol.com http://home.aol.com/CNMPAT June 22, 1996 7:43 am

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
