Re: IUD/AbruptionFrom: Myer S. Bornstein (mborn@massmed.org)Wed Jun 5 12:36:16 1996
Cytotec = misoprostil, used orally for peptic ulcer disease, is a prostoglandin. Comes in 100 mcg tab. we use 25 mcg pv q 4 hrs x max of six doses for softening an unripe cervicx for induction. Do have to watch for close frequent contatctions and moniter them, we have had some without any fetal distress. we place a saline lock in place for the use of MgSO4 for tocolysis if needed. We find that most patients will go on to a regular labor pattern and need less pitocin than would normally be needed. It is also recomended that you could use 100 -200 mcgs of cytotec for induction of a fetal demise the dosage schedule q12 hrs. It is much better than the gel in terms of price, less side effects - nausea, vomiting- fever. Hope this helps Myer

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
