Cytotec for induction (was RE: IUD/Abruption)

This cytotec stuff seems to work great. The other day I was struggling to get a patient with severe preeclampsia at 30 weeks into labor, and despite prostin gel (x3) and pitocing, she was still 1cm and going nowhere. She really wanted a vaginal delivery, and there was no pressing reason to section. I spotted Armando in the hallway, and he suggested 50mcg of misoprostil, and, amazingly, she delivered without complications 6 hours later! No wonder the patients I refer to him call him "the King of Ob/Gyns!"

Ashley D. Ashley Hill, M.D. I would like to hear more about use of cytotec for induction of labor. Little buggers cost about $.50 compared to $250 for Cervidil. Anyone have some good protocols for use of Cytotec?? I'll bet there are others on the list who would like to see this too.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
