------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Gerard: ------------------------------------------------------------------------- The use of chromic or other sutures depends in which surgical ------------------------------------------------------------------------- school you have been trained, in Argentina the surgical gynecologic schools usually have trained us to use chromic 0 (episiotomies, vaginal sutures, peritoneum) or 1 (cesarean section) or 2 (aponeurosis), even linen (aponeurosis, skin). With the appearance of Dexon and Vicryl, we had the opportunity to use a material with lesser diameter (less traumatic) and better healing results (less granulomas, more strength, etc). But that doesn't means that everybody has to use them, because as I have said there were other schools that suture with chromic of a lesser diameter and have the same results as us. Thanks for your comments. Guillermo R. Suttora, MD e-mail: grs2@hpn.sspn.sld.ar Servicio de Ginecologia Hospital Provincial Neuquen Neuquen, Argentina

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
