Actually Jude, I have always left the scalp electrode in place simply because if it needed to be there, then it doesn't make sense to remove it while induction of anesthesia or placement of epidural is ongoing. When the vertex is elevated out of the incision, I cut the wire with the bandage scissors. The pediatrician then removes the scalp electrode from the baby and the circulator reaches up and easily pulls down the wire while I'm repairing the uterus.

You're right. It makes little sense to have the circulator struggle in detaching the scalp electrode from the vertex while under the drape.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
