There are two groups funded in the US for fetal cells in maternal circulation. One is at Tufts, with Diana Bianchi. I am not sure of the other, maybe UCSF. I assume we will see a post from Ken Moise if it is Baylor. Wolfgang Holzgreve recently moved to Basel, the Universitats-Frauenklinik. My understanding from Diana is that MACS is less expensive & easier to perform than FACS, but purifies less well, and neither really creates pure fetal samples, just improved concentrations by several orders of magnitude. That still leaves concentrations on the order of one fetal cell in 10 to the 8th or 9th power maternal cells.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
