I want to add my AMEN to this statement. I spent 2 years in the military as an OB/GYN attending at USNH Portsmouth, VA. This was a wonderful experience and was absolutely no diferent than my previous and subsequent experiences in civilian hospitals. I have 4 grandchildren all of whom were born in military hospitals ( 1 in Rome,NY, 1 at Offut in Omaha, and 2 twins with TTTS at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego0 My daughter(wife of an Air Force Major) had superb care both places she delivered. My Daughter-in-law( wife of an E-3) had expert medical care offered in an extremely passionate manner by superb professionals. My son was over 10,000 miles away aboard ship in the Persian Gulf. Our military medical system is routinely maligned by people who have little understanding of the highly emotional states that many of the patients of that system are undergoing. And in additon to that theyare forced to seek care from that system without choice. Thus they gripe. With Managed care and HMO's forcing people into different Health care systems not of their choice, I am beginning to hear much more griping from the civilian sector about medical care. You certainly hit one of my emotional sore points. I apologize for the harangue.

As a military obstetrician I greatly resent the statement that " A military hospital and a good birth experience would seem = to be conflicting issues". We provide the same type of care as the civilian community, we just happen to be in the military. I'm glad you and your daughter had a positive experience, and I assure you this is the rule not the exception.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
