I would agree wholeheartedly with Josh Copel.

Many of the patients referred to our center have gestational thrombocytopenia. We stopped using anti-platelet antibody assays as a diagnostic criteria many years ago because these individuals are invariably positive. I would not offer cordocenteis to an individual with autoimmune thrombocytopenic purpura unless she has a diagnosis prior to pregnancy (with or without splenectomy) or if she is newly diagnosed during pregnancy - she must have a platelet count below 75,000/mm3. Patients with gestational thrombocytopenia do not nadir their platelet count below this level.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
