ATP in pregnancyFrom: Kenneth J. Moise (kmoise@bcm.tmc.edu)Thu May 23 23:44:42 1996
Carl is a lone voice in the woods in his opinion to stop performing cordocentesis in patients with autoimmune thrombocytopenic purpura. Many perinatologists worldwide still recommend this. Fetal loss rates after cordo in Carl's hands are < 0.5%, 50% less than his proposed rate of intracranial hemorrhage in thrombocytopenic fetuses. I know that I have prevented many a cesarean section in patients referred by obstetricians that have been advised by their hematology consultants that a cesarean section should be routinely undertaken to protect the potentially thrombocytopenic fetus. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
