Placental abruption in PETFrom: Danny Tucker (danny.tucker@dial.pipex.com)Sun May 19 11:26:57 1996
I have been asked to put this question to you by one of our Consultants, and would value your opinion. A G1P0 at 38/40 developed hypertension (160/105) with proteinuria (0.5g/24h). No haematological/biochemical disturbance. Fetal assessment was reassuring and she was treated with labetalol. This brought the BP to <150/80. Close to 40/40 she had an acute placental abruption with subsequent fetal demise. The question is not regarding the appropriateness of treatment with labetalol, but whether there is any data indicating that treatment of hypertension in PET reduces the chance of placental abruption. I must admit that I wasn't aware that there was an association of PET with moderate hypertension and abruption.
