Subject: Re: Effect of sexual activity on health

<<Is anyone aware of published studies showing the beneficial effects of sexual activity on physical well being ? Does sex help patients suffering from backache for example ?>>

"I thought the "old gynecologists' tale" was that orgasm relieved pelvic congestion syndrome.... ???? Joe P."

I was "taught" that tale in a Psychiatry course in medical school. The teach even recommended masturbation to relieve pelvic congestion syndrome.

As a young Doc in practice I made that diagnosis and recommended the therapy. It did not help. A subsequent GI consult diagnosed early Crohn's Disease.

Can not help with the original question, but I suspect that a good sexual relationship can have a positive impact on physical well being.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
