Use of RhogamFrom: Hellriegel, John (jhellrie@ubmedd.buffalo.edu)Fri May 17 21:03:31 1996
Subject: Re: Prenatal rhogam Qs... "No one has mentioned it yet, but I assume rhogam is being given at the time of amnio as well. Allen." I think that giving rhogam at the time of amnio is routine. As I recall, the half life of rhogam is about 6 weeks and that you should repeat the rhogam after 2 half lives (12 weeks). I believe the rational was that if the antibody level became very low, the antibodies somehow augmented the sensitization of the mother. Thus, for an amnio at 16 weeks the repeat dose would be at 28 weeks. What about an early amino at 12 weeks? Should rhogam also be given at about 24 weeks and 36 weeks? Comments from the experts? The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
