cord blood

Interested in others perspective regarding cord blood banking. Seems to be much ado about nothing. I just received a mailing regarding the Cord Blood registry and it's attendant costs. Seems around 1000 dollars plus 75 dollars per year for storage. The brochure estimates 1 in 2500 persons could benefit from the banking of cord blood. This seems rather high to me, but I don't have the numbers at my disposal to dispute this. Also, the brochure suggests that not offering this service to patients could be problematic. Of course, my suspicion is that this is a money maker for the Cord blood registry. Would appreciate others insight and opinions.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
