Re: cerclage/conizationFrom: DoctorJoe@aol.comWed May 15 08:38:52 1996
I already posted this on Gyn Docs... Here it is if anyone is interested. x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x Goldberg GL, Altaras MM, Bloch B. Cone Cerclage in Pregnancy Obstet Gynecol 77: 315, 1991. We report a technique of cone cerclage and the results and outcome in 17 patients who required a diagnostic cone biopsy in pregnancy. The mean age of the patients was 30.6 years (range 21-41). The mean gestational age was 18.8 weeks (range 10-32) at the time of the procedure. There were no major complications and hemorrhage was not a signifi- cant problem. There were no second-trimester abortions. Two patients required beta-sympathomimetics to suppress uterine activity for longer than 24 hours after the procedure. Six patients had invasive carcinoma, nine had cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) III, and two had CIN II. In 14 cases, the endocervical and ectocervical margins were nega- tive; two patients with CIN and one with multifocal micro- invasion had positive margins. Cone cerclage is a safe and easy method for performing diagnositic cervical conization during pregnancy. x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x Hope this is helpful. ************************************************* doctorjoe@aol.com "All things are connected. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
