1 in 200 is correct for amniocentesis in the 15. to 17. week of pregnancy, if it is done by an expert. It surely depends on the skill of the examiner. The risk is higher if the amniocentesis is performed earlier. Of cause it is enlarged, too, if there are severe ultrasonic findings on the fetus.
