Re: compression stockingsFrom: OBDocRick@aol.comWed May 8 10:35:19 1996
Since a c-section is so short, why the need? My understanding is that the compression stockings work by releasing heparin or a heparin like product. i remember reading an article in a surgical journal (I have no idea which journal) that you receive the same antithrombolic effect whether the stocking was on the leg or arm, because of this release of antithrombin. Recalling Virchow's triad, it would be the stasis aspect of thrombosis that we would worry about , and that a section requires such a short time, I don't think it is a factor. Have you had a problem with peripheral extremity clots in your sections? Rick

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
