Re: There but for the grace of God go I . . .From: NNTRN@aol.comTue Apr 30 23:31:38 1996
As a nurse that works L&D, NICU & PEDS, I have seen MANY MD goof-ups. I think it is so low integrity of them to think they don't have to appologize for a mistake. Remember, MD's you are HUMAN!!!! Do you think you are regarded as so far and above reproach that you musn't request forgiveness when a mistake happens. Taking a little time to sit with a patient and their family and explain what happened, show them a little of the complexity of the procedure and explain that unfortunatly, since you are a human dealing with human bodies, you cannot be programed to do procedures without expectation of variables. Many patients will do much better with this form of honesty. You know if the mistake was avoidable or not. Maybe there are times when you are late for an appointment, a meeting, your spouse will KILL you if you miss another baseball game or school play. These are all of the sacrifices you make when you began your pursuit of the career in medicine. Remember in each and every case you work on, THIS IS A HUMAN!! I AM HUMAN!! I will and must do my very best to complete THIS (not worrying about future or previous cases) case. Staying present when working on a case is so very important. It allows you to be fully focused and less "mistakes" will occur. Just my .02 worth, Nicole, RN in CALIF.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
