What this young lady needs is subcutaneous estradiol pellets. Yes, I know that they are not available in USA anymore but perhaps she can get some in Mexico and her gynecologist can insert them with, of course, appropriate consent. If they cannot be found in Mexico perhaps one of our European colleagues on the list would be able to send you a supply.

Using a few ml Xylocaine they are inserted through a tiny incision in the subcutaneous tissues of the abdominal wall in a manner identical to the insertion of Norplant. I think that they were a little larger than Norplant so you may have to get you local instrument maker to make an introducer for you out of some stainless steel tubing of the appropriate size.

I used them regularly until they were taken off the market. If I remember correctly they were made by Schering. The late Greenblat was a great advocate of their use.

Good luck,

Regards

Peter

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
