One Ob/Gyn I know told me the reason his c/section rate was so low was because he induced his patients at 4000 grams, and he was "getting them out" before they got too big and had "arrested labor". I told him that I doubted he could find support for that in the literature. It seems most pregnant ladies worry at one time or another that there baby is "getting too big". A little reassurance and some basic clinical skills may be harder than just bringing them in for induction (i.e. taking the easy way out) and I agree that inducing for suspected macrosomia on a routine basis is asking for trouble.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
