Re: Your chance to make a differenceFrom: David Nagey (dnagey@c3p0.ab.umd.edu)Tue Apr 16 18:20:08 1996
Our anesthesia service makes a tremendous difference - they interview EVERY patient on L&D and put a note on her chart - so when they are called for stat situations, they know the patient. They see our extremely complicated patients (v-tach, cardiomyopathy, myastenia, etc), at around 28 weeks and develop a plan so even in the middle of the night, there is no casting about for what to do. They are very accomodating and ever-present so we never hear grousing about putting an epidural in at 1 cm in a difficult induction. They act as consultants and co-managers on our critically ill patients (and place all our lines, sometimes supervising our fellows or interested chiefs). And perhaps most importantly, they answer to one person, Andy Malinow, who takes it personally if anything happens that does not meet his high standards. He also publishes a periodic accounting of failed epidurals, repeat attempts, etc - by physician - with only himself publicly identified. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
