Fevers following an epiduralFrom: CNMPAT@aol.comTue Apr 16 13:11:03 1996
Can anyone cite some references or personal experiences related to: The onset of maternal temperature following the administration of epidural anesthesia. These were in women without a fever, without other SS infection, and with less than 12 hours ROM. Within an hour of the epidural, the mom had a fever of >100.5> Of course, this leads one down the rosy path of antibiotics and septic workup for the baby. If others experience this, what do you think is the causative factor? Any articles/references to this topic would be much appreciated. It seems to be a trend at our hospital, and not just with my clients. Could it be the Fentanyl? Pat Sonnenstuhl, CNM,ARNP,RH South Sound Nurse Midwives Olympia, WA, USA cnmpat@aol.com April 16, 1996

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
