> >any indications proven for home monitoring to have an impact on outcomes? >studies showing positive effects? no effects? > >Mark, The lead oral presentation at SPO last year ('95), sponsored by TOCOS, showed that it had absolutely no impact on premature birth. Past studies have questioned the efficacy of oral terb or ritodrine for PTL, either as prophylaxis or treatment. There was a recent study that showed that oral tocolytics had no effect on preterm birth when compared with controls. This is not to say that I don't use them, but I am probably treating myself more than the patient. I think that you managed the patient appropriately as an outpatient. If we used TOCOS or hospitalized all of these patients, the payers would really yell. Lynn Lynn Montgomery, M.D. Maternal-Fetal Medicine Tulsa, Oklahoma

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
